This morning I coined a term. Vibe engineering. Engineering discipline at machine speed, run by a different kind of operator. Now, the archetype. Because a coinage without a face is just a word.
A new breed of leader.
Not the engineer. Not because engineers lack talent — they don't. Engineering teams are brilliantly optimised for a different job: build correctly, at scale, inside sprints, tickets and structure. That discipline built the digital economy and the FAANG. They are still important. For Now.
But building to scale and 0-to-1 are different sports.
In a large enterprise, an engineer who has crossed into P&L can occasionally straddle both. That's the enterprise exception.
In lean startup and scaleup land, the archetype is sharper.
It's the battle-hardened founder-operator — the CEO or COO who has run the traditional playbook end-to-end and has the agility to now direct a machine that finally moves at their pace.
Not tomorrow. Now.
They have the scar tissue. They've sat in the room where the money was lost and learned exactly why. They know what "good" looks like without needing a translator.
The archetype has a name. STARLORD.

System Thinking, Agile, Real Life, ORchestrator & Rules Disrupter.
Five inputs the machine can't fake:
- System Thinking — see the whole board, not the tile.
- Agile — pivot before the market forces you.
- Real Life — scars from a career, not a course.
- Orchestrator — direct the crew, don't play every instrument.
- Rules Disrupter — know which rules to break, and when.
That's the operator vibe engineering needs. That's the founder who ships 124,526 lines of production code in nine days from mum's spare bedroom.
Why this matters now.
For 20 years the C-suite scaled engineering teams to close the gap between vision and shipped product. That world just ended.
Vibe engineering closes the gap between the STARLORD brain and the shipped product. Vision. Judgement. Speed. Delivery.
The archetype isn't coming. The archetype is already sitting in your C-suite team — or founding your competitor's company. They have always been there.
The difference is you need them more than they need you. They were going to be the future leaders, and the smart companies are bending over to grab their attention.
Now they have a name. STARLORD.
